The Timberline Association Inc. (TAI) Gatehouse acts as the secure entry point for the community. Gatehouse staff manage vehicle access, with procedures in place to assist in routing visitors, residents, and workers. To contact the Gatehouse, please call (304) 866-4143.

  • TAI Community Map

This map illustrates trails and lakes within the community association.

  • Front Door Lock

The house makes use of Schlage keypads for the front and side door locks. You should've received the door code in the welcome information that we've sent you. If not, call MountainTop Realty & Rentals at (800) 624-4341.

To open the door: Type in the 4 digit numeric code and press the "check" key. There should be a "beep" for each key pressed. A correct code will electronically unlock the door. Note: the numbers don't appear until you press where the first number is.

To lock the door when you leave: You may simply press the "Lock" in the bottom right corner of the digital lock, and the door will lock.

  • Check-out Instructions

    Check-out time is 10:00 AM.

Linens: Please strip the beds and leave linens and towels on the floor in each bedroom.

Hot Tub: Please ensure that the hot tub is covered and that the strap is secured on top of the hot tub cover.

Dishes: Please ensure all dishes are either clean or in the dishwasher, which you should turn on before departure.

Trash: Please remove all trash and recycling and deposit it in the TAI trash depot at the base of the mountain.

  • Hot Tub

You are welcome to use the outdoor hot tub, but please remember these simple rules:

    • Always cover the hot tub when not in use to ensure the water stays hot!
    • When you check out, please make sure the straps are securely tightened on top of the cover. Winds along the ridge are strong enough that they can blow the cover off.
  • Living Room Speaker

The sound bar in the living room outputs TV audio while the TV is on. If the TV is off, then you can connect the speaker to any bluetooth device. To put the speaker in pairing mode, press the bluetooth icon on the side of the speaker.

  • TVs

The living room and bedroom TVs use either Roku or Google TV.

    Roku TV
These are set to Guest mode so that you first select a checkout date, after which any streaming services you use will be automatically logged out.
    Google TV
Common streaming services are available but may require login to access your personal subscriptions.
    Basement common area TV
Common streaming services are available but may require login to access your personal subscriptions.
  • Heating and Cooling

The house has two heating units. The north unit is in the garage with a thermostat in the main level hallway near the laundry area. The south unit is in the basement utility closet with a thermostat in the main level hallway near the stairs.

The heating systems work best when both thermostats are set to the same temperature. For heat balancing purposes, in the basement bunk room we recommend only opening the 1-2 vents located over the bunk beds.

Upon departure please set the thermostats to 60 degrees.

The house does not have air conditioning but benefits from a cooling breeze up the mountain. Leave the living room deck doors open and the loft windows open to maximize air flow.

You may notice a dehumidifier in the basement in the area behind the curtain, near the sink. That should run during the spring and summer months and it drains through the connected hose. Please do not move the dehumidifier or turn it off.

  • Kitchen Items

Kitchen cabinets are labeled to help guests find and put away kitchen utensils. Additional kitchen gadgets are available in the entryway closet.

  • Laundry

A washer and two dryers are available for guest use. A starter amount of detergent should be in the cabinet above the washer, but guests may want to bring additional supplies for significant laundering.

  • Fireplaces

Guests are welcomed to use an appropriate amount of firewood available in the garage. If the garage is empty, firewood can be purchased from MountainTop Realty & Rentals by the bag or crate.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing you need to do before attempting to light a fire in the fireplace, is to make sure the chimney FLUE is open to allow smoke to go up the chimney. To open the flue, reach your hand up the chimney until you feel a metal handle. Pushing upwards on that handle should open the flue. ***If you do not open the flue, you will smoke out the house***.

In case of emergency, fire suppression blankets are located near the living room fireplace and under the kitchen sink.

  • Trash & Recycling

Trash must be bagged and deposited in the dumpster at the TAI trash depot. The trash depot is located at the first left turn as you enter the TAI community, between the Gatehouse parking lot and the turnoff for parking near Spruce Island Lake.

The only recycling available nearby is for clean cardboard (no attached food scraps), which can be placed in the cardboard recycling dumpster at the TAI trash depot.

  • Sewer, Water & Electrical

Spruce Lodge is connected to a sewer system. PLEASE only flush toilet paper and no other paper products, including flushable wipes.

Tap water is safe to drink and delicious. There are two hot water heaters in the house, one by the closet near the stairs and one in the closet near the laundry area. Sometimes the water heater near the stairs needs a power cycle (power off, power on) to resume heating.

The main electrical panel and the water shutoff valve for the house is in the basement in the utility room off of the corridor that leads to the garage.

  • BBQ Grill

There is a propane grill on the deck areas outside of the kitchen, which you are free to use. Propane tank refills can be purchased nearby in the valley BFS gas station.

  • Linens & Blankets

Clean linens and towels are provided.

If you need extra blankets during your stay, there is a supply in the linen closet across from the laundry and in the cabinet below the bunkroom TV.

  • Snow Plowing & Shoveling

Roads within the Timberline Association are routinely plowed by the association. The driveway at Spruce Lodge is plowed by MountainTop Realty & Rentals.

  • Parking & EV Charging

There are spaces for two cars to park next to the south entrance of Spruce Lodge. There is additional parking below, adjacent to the two garages. No parking on the road.

There is a universal, level-2, 48-amp EV charger attached to the exterior wall of the house near the garages. The charger includes both NACS and J1772 adapters. To access the J1772 adapter, simply push the button on the top of the charger.
